Table of Contents

Have you finally decided to go through with your kitchen remodel? This is a good one if you plan to sell your home, as the kitchen is usually one of the biggest selling points.  Kitchen remodeling is also a good way to make it more functional as a kitchen as well as for other purposes, such as a home office.

Whatever your reason for taking the plunge, it is important to know what is trending. They might not all work for you, but trends can guide your kitchen design so that it appeals to many people today. Here are trending designs for kitchen remodeling for 2019.

Gadget ready

One of the trending designs for kitchen remodeling that has been going on for quite a while is a gadget ready one. People depend on their gadgets on a daily basis, and most people spend a lot of their time in the kitchen. It makes sense to put the two together by making the kitchen gadget ready.

The most common way to do this is to build in Wi-Fi receivers and charging stations in your kitchen design. There might come a time when you will have a “smart” kitchen where appliances “talk” to each other, but that is not yet mainstream. In the meantime, preparing your kitchen for that eventuality is a good move.

LED the way

You should also consider putting in LED lighting for your kitchen. It is energy efficient, attractive, and low heat emitting. It is also relatively inexpensive, which was not the case a few years ago. Since you are doing a remodel, this is the perfect time to incorporate it in the design.

LED lights come in many shapes, forms, and colors today. You can even switch to different colors in some models by a flick of a switch.  You can use LED lights for general lighting as well as for under and inside cabinets. The type and placement of your lights can have a profound effect on the look, feel, and function of your kitchen.

Sink it

Forget about the double sink for your new kitchen. People no longer need two sinks to separate soaking and washing from rinsing as most use the dishwasher anyway. In addition, the double sink takes up so much space, and it is often not big enough to accommodate larger pots and pans comfortably.

Instead, consider putting in a large, deep single sink such as a farmhouse sink that can accommodate most things without a problem. If you think the apron-front design is a bit too countrified for your kitchen, you can always choose one of many models of modern single sinks, preferably an under mounted one for easy cleanup. These would look fantastic with granite or quartz countertops.

If you have the space ad prefer to have a separate sink for thawing and food preparation, you can put a smaller one in your design, but at a distance from the big sink. This way, two people can work on different tasks at the same time without bumping into each other.

Unique fixtures

Kitchen fixtures are usually standard and functional, but you need to be a bit more creative when it comes to 2019. There is a definite trend for unusual and interesting designs for faucets and other fixtures. Fortunately, there are quite a few attractive designs available for the asking.  Choose the right ones and you can make your kitchen look and feel distinctive without having to pay more.

Open shelves

You probably wouldn’t think it, but open shelves are quite popular today. Open shelves create an illusion of space, which is important in smaller kitchens. Many people choose to live in smaller spaces such as condos and apartments because of the high cost of maintaining a large home. As a result, many people have to make do with smaller kitchens. Open shelves create a deeper visual line than you would get with regular cabinets.

Of course, you still need regular cabinets for the bulk of your storage. You probably will not want to put some stuff on display, so you keep those because behind closed doors.  You can mix in open shelves to break the solid line of closed doors, putting display-worthy stuff on them. This can do a lot to make the kitchen look more spacious.

Conclusion

While trends tend to have a short shelf life, some designs do stand the test of time. These small improvements can help make the most of your kitchen remodel. Keep them in mind before making a final decision for your design.
