Reasons You Need a Pro to do Bathroom Remodeling

It seems like you can do anything yourself nowadays. The internet is full of tutorial videos on how to make anything, from quilts to drones.

While DIYing is an excellent way to save money as well as be productive, some projects are best left to experts, such as major bathroom remodeling. Even experienced DIYers would not have all the necessary expertise to complete one successfully.

A bathroom remodel would typically need the skills of a plumber, electrician, and mason. You might end up with a disaster in your hands and spending twice as much to fix it as you would have if you had hired a contractor to do it.

You can DIY small projects, such as replacing the water closet mechanism or putting in a vanity. Taking on anything that involves pipes, tiles, and electrical wiring, however, might not be a good idea. There are some pretty good reasons you need a pro to do bathroom remodeling.

You can save quite a bit of folding money by doing a remodel yourself in by way of labor cost. In most rooms, that is actually quite doable. However, it is a little trickier when it comes to the bathroom, as most rooms do not have tiles or water pipes.

You need to know how to handle these things in a bathroom upgrade. You need the right equipment, so you might need to buy or rent the tools. You are also liable to make a mess of things and waste the supplies you purchased for the job.  On top of that, you will most likely have to pay for more materials and a pro to fix whatever mess you made in there.  The outlay will probably come close to double what you would have paid a remodeling company to do it in the first place.

Time

DIYers often have jobs and look forward to projects they can do in their off time, such as after work or on weekends. While this is definitely a great way to use your leisure hours in most cases, it is not with a bathroom remodel.  Doing one in such spurts and starts is definitely not a good idea. Bathrooms are essential for daily life, so having one out of commission can put a serious crimp in your day. Do not even waste a second in considering DIYing it if it is the only one you have in the house. Contact a remodeling company.

Remodeling shows make it look easy, but they don’t show the full picture. While it is possible to complete a bathroom remodel in a few days, it requires a concerted effort of several people working at the same time to do that. As a lone DIYer carrying out the work in your spare time, it might take you weeks, even months to complete a remodel, if you ever do. Nine cases out of 10 DIY bathroom remodels end up either incomplete or unsuccessful.

Expertise

Not all DIYers are amateurs. Many are actually tradespeople in their “real” life, so they probably have the skills to carry out some part of a bathroom remodel. They might be carpenters, masons, plumbers, or electricians. However, it is unlikely that they would have all the skills necessary to complete a bathroom remodel successfully without outside help.

A good example is the floor. A bathroom floor is not an ordinary floor. You will have to take out the old one to put in a new floor. Breaking it up is messy and noisy work, and after that will have to figure out a way to haul away the debris.  You also need to know how to check for any problems with the subfloor.

You also have to consider that under the concrete and tiles run drainage and water pipes, and you have to be careful not to hit any of those. You also have to know what to do if you do hit one of them, or if you find that one or more of them are leaking or otherwise need replacing. In some cases, you have to dig up the pipes all the way to the source to fix any issues you might have with them.

Conclusion

Bathroom remodeling is not a DIY project you want to take on. While you can save some money if you do it right, that is a big if. In most cases, it is far better to call in a pro to do it for you.

What you can DIY to save some money is finding a reputable company to supply you with some of the key elements of your new bathroom. The remodeling company can do that for you, but perhaps not with such great results.
