Kitchen Cabinets & Granite Countertops Chicago

The village of Chicago is in Cook County in the northeast part of Illinois state. It is suburb of Chicago and part of the area around the I-90 called the Golden Corridor. It is about 28 miles from the Chicago Loop on the northwest side and 10 miles from O’Hare International Airport. As a village, Chicago is pretty big, with a total area of 19,333 square miles, has the 11th largest mall in the US, and one of only two IKEA stores in Illinois.

It wasn’t always so developed, however, The transition of Chicago from rural area to suburban metropolis is actually quite interesting. In the beginning, the area was occupied for the longest time by different Native American tribes including the Potawatomi Sauk, Fox, and Kickapoo. Americans from the East and German immigrants only began to arrive in the mid-1800s.

Legend has it that among the first settlers were Americans Trumball Kent, Ernst Schween, and Horace Williams, as well as Johann Sunderlage, a German surveyor who like the place so much he brought his family over from Germany in 1836. At one point, most of the Chicago properties were owned by German immigrants and their families as most Americans that had initially settled in the area moved farther west to the Great Plaines. By 1870, the town was as German as any town in Germany, and continued to be so until the 1930s when the Great Depression resulted in foreclosure of some German-owned farms, which were subsequently bought by non-Germans.

The town’s name was declare during a town meeting in 1850. This was when one of the landowners Friedrich Henrich Nerge said that it will be Chicago. However, it wasn’t until 1956 that it became an incorporated village, a year after construction began on the O’Hare International Airport.Three years later, the first of large scale developments in the area was begun by Alfred Campanelli. The Woodfield Mall opened in 1971 as more of the neighboring area was annexed to make room for the many manufacturing, industrial, and retail establishments that sprang up in the area. This expansion essentially changed the village from a quiet rural community to an urban environment.

Things to Do Around Chicago

The St. Peter Lutheran Church was up in 1847 and is the oldest in Chicago, currently still up as a museum. Back in the day until 1970, the services were in German, the first language of many of the residents. Former Illinois Lieutenant Governor Francis Hoffman used to hold religious meetings there.
You can stroll around for a good while in Woodfield Mall, but you can also check out The Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center. For a guided tour of the architectural treasures in the area, you can go with one of the Schweikher Home & Studio Tours
You might also want to go to the Prairie Center for the Arts and catch a performance or imbibe the local culture at the Farmer’s Market from June to October. Go back even further and check out the Native American owned and operated Trickster Art Gallery.
Go back to nature by going to the Chicago Park District, where you can seek some peace and quiet at the Spring Valley Nature Center, an outdoor living museum.

New for the old-fashioned

The clients had inherited a charming 3-bedroom ranch house in Chicago built in 1967, and was making plans to move there from Wisconsin. It was very traditional design, which was exactly how the client wants. However, the kitchen cabinets were not in good condition, and they were quite small, so the client wanted them all replaced. She contacted us for a quote on new cabinets.

Consultation

We went over to take measurements and look at the existing design so we could advise the client about what we can do and how much it would cost. She wanted the new cabinets to be in keeping with the rest of the house but with a lot of storage. With hardwood floors and furniture, white walls, and red brick, the best cabinet color would be white. We recommended 42 inch shaker style cabinets with crown molding. Also we gave her a quote for Schrock cabinets, and she put down a deposit. We advised her that delivery would be in two to three weeks.

After sales

We were able to deliver the cabinets to the client on schedule. We followed up after two weeks to find out if there were any problems. In addition we saw that installation had gone without a hitch. We asked the client for photos of the installed cabinets. And we were very happy to see that it did look as good in the kitchen as we anticipated. The client was very thankful to us for the advice and she was very happy with the product.
